Sandra (Sandy) Hoskins always considered herself fortunate to have chosen a field of work that she found satisfying for the entirety of her professional career. Sandy became an Occupational Therapist in 1978 and committed more than 40 years of her life to the field of therapy.
She founded Legacy Healthcare Services, Inc. (Legacy) in 1999. Sandy sold her company in 2019, and Legacy continues to provide Physical, Occupational and Speech and Language Pathology services to the aging population.
The Sandra Hoskins Legacy Foundation (SHLF) intends to seek out and support projects focused on providing quality housing and employment opportunities for individuals who have barriers to economic independence.
Sandy’s experiences in providing therapy services to the elderly took her to a variety of living arrangements. She wants to support initiatives that are focused on the notion of nurture as a key component of life quality.
Specifically, she is interested in
- Initiatives that recognize the special environmental needs of individuals with moderate to severe autism who have lost the stability of their home environment through the death or illness of their parents or caregivers.
- Projects that seek to provide healthy, safe and secure homes for adolescents and young adults who have been forced to leave their family home because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
- And housing initiatives that strive to combat the growing numbers of homeless through affordable housing options.
One cannot dream or aspire to a satisfying or purpose-driven life without first knowing the safety and stability of home. Housing is a basic and fundamental human right, upon which economic mobility, educational attainment, and social justice is predicated.
